Itineraries · by enquiry

Not booked. Built.

Some days don't start from a menu. Tell us who's coming, what you're curious about, and what you'd rather avoid — and we build the day around that, hour by hour. No fixed itinerary until it's right.

How it works

Three answers, then a day.

There is no form to survive and no itinerary to approve in triplicate. You tell us roughly what you're after, we come back with a shape, and we keep moving it until it's right.

One we built

A real Tuesday, hour by hour.

For a family of four who said “food, and nothing touristy.” Nothing here was on a menu; all of it came out of a twenty-minute conversation.

A Tuesday in October · four guests · 9:00–17:00 · five stops

  1. 09:00

    Coffee in the lobby.

Their guide met them there, talked the plan through, and asked what they would rather skip.

  2. 09:40

    Breakfast at Tsukiji.

A standing counter in the outer market where the chefs eat before work. No English menu — the guide ordered, they pointed at what looked good.

  3. 11:15

Kappabashi, and a knife shop with no sign.

Third generation. They showed the family how the sharpening is done, and why the good ones cost what they do.

  4. 12:40

    Lunch, called ahead.

The knife shop's owner phoned a tempura counter two streets away in Asakusa. It is in no guidebook.

  5. 14:30

    Yanaka, at walking pace.

Temple lanes, a senbei shop the same family has run for generations, and a coffee roaster the size of a closet.

  6. 15:30

    The plan changed.

The children were done walking. Their guide knew a bench-lined path through Ueno Park, and a taiyaki stand on the way. Twenty minutes later everyone was fine.

  7. 17:00

    Back at the hotel.

Eight hours, door to door. Dinner was already booked — four seats at a counter, in their name. We made the call while they were out walking.

Which way in

Take one of ours, or start from nothing.

Both are private, both take one booking at a time, and both are priced by the day. The difference is only where the day starts from.

Take a day we run

A shape we have run many times and know lands. Priced up front, ready to go, nothing to decide beyond the date.

Best if it's your first time in Japan, you're short on days, or you'd rather we just handled it.

Build one

Starts from your questions rather than our menu. Any of the places we cover, in whatever order the day actually wants to go.

Best if you've been before, you're travelling with people who need different things, or you already have something specific in mind.

Most people land somewhere between the two, and that's fine — take one of ours as a first draft and tell us what to change.

What it costs

Quoted, not listed.

  • No fixed price. A custom day is quoted once we know its shape — length, distance, how many of you.
  • One price, all of you. Quoted for who's coming and how long your day runs — never a seat price times a head count.
  • You see the number first. Nothing is held and nothing is owed until you've seen what it costs and said yes.
  • You say yes, we hold the date. Your guide is reserved, payment is sorted before you travel — and the day itself carries no bill.
